Unsafe Drugs

Prescription and over-the-counter medications are supposed to help patients/consumers.  Sometimes, however, a drug may cause more harm than good.  This can occur where the drug is tainted/contaminated, or if there has been inadequate or insufficient testing (known as a “clinical trial”) such that the risks outweigh the benefits of the drug, or the warnings fail to address a potential side effect.

Even though a drug is approved by Food and Drug Administration (FDA), this does not necessarily mean that it is free from risks.  The FDA approves a drug based upon the information submitted to it by the drug manufacturer.  Based on that information, the FDA determines whether the benefits of the new drug outweigh the known risks.  We recently learned that some pharmaceutical companies failed to provide information and research to the FDA showing adverse events.
